6. Basic strokes

When practicing calligraphy, you should not start writing characters immediately.  It is necessary to practice some basic strokes as a preparatory stage, just as you might do some warming-up exercises before a sport. The brush should be moved not from your wrist alone but with your whole body. Try to handle the brush in a free and easy style, checking the shade of Chinese ink at the same time.
